Paul catches stumpy!

Paul, from Bristol had his first experience on Bungsamran today.

Starting around 8:30am, the action was pretty much non-stop from the start, with the first fish of the day coming off the first cast, being probably the smallest of the day.

After around 4 or 5 fish around the 18kg to 20kg mark, Paul was starting to feel the heat, it was certainly one of the hottest days of the year so far on the lake, but it didn't seem to slow down the efforts of our guide, Boonsong who repeatedly returned the baited feeder to the hotspot.

Boonsong's accuracy created a gradual build up of fish in small area around 60yds out, and now some larger catfish seemed to be trying to get to the bait first. The first of the larger fish was a very hard fighting specimen of around 24kg. Paul was relieved that we had just changed down to a shorter rod, as now he was beginning to understand the power the larger Mekong's can put on if they choose.

After a few more fish all around the 20kg Mark, once again Paul found himself into a fish that seemed initally to be significantly larger, but to all our surprise this fish turned out to be 25kg, it was an incredibly short stocky fish, so much so that all the guides looking up and down the bungalows had a laugh about its dimensions, but that did not stop "stumpy" putting up one of the best scraps of the day. As the the afternoon wore on so Paul's tally of fish grew, and by now it was almost a fish a cast. Unfortunately though a couple of much larger fish where lost, so the days best remained at 25kg. We persuaded Paul to try a slightly different approach the next day.
