Giant Siamese Carp and Chao Praya Catfish!

For Gary's final days fishing on this trip, he was determined to try and get a Siamese Carp. Once again Bungsamran came up with goods. Fishing on one of the larger bungalows had provided Gary with pretty much non stop action close in on the ledger from Striped Catfish, and a number of Mekong's, but the carp remained elusive until the sun had nearly gone. Boy had also tackled up for the Chao Praya Catfish which had been taking well at dusk over the last few days. Boy cast the live bait out for the Tilapia and had barely a chance to put the rod down before line started spilling off the open spool at speed. Gary was handed the rod, to crank over the bail arm and wind to the fish which was kiting across the lake at speed and after some furious winding the rod bucked over and Gary was into a decent Chao Praya.

Meanwhile on the other side of the bungalow, I was busy preparing the last bowl of bait, whilst Gary tackled his Chao Praya catfish. All of a sudden right under my nose the reel on the carp rod started spinning frantically. There was no doubting what was on the end of the line simply from the speed of the take. I didn't want to ruin Gary's first chance at a Siamese Carp and by now the Chao Praya he was playing was starting to tire. So I quickly ran over and took the Chao Praya out of Gary's hands, and he went over and struck the carp rod. This was met with a furious tug back, which almost had Gary in the drink! But the carp very quickly decided to head back in towards our bungalow where it started the Siamese Carps usual antics of trying to get in under the bungalow Considering the chaos and lack of tuition that was going on, Gary played the carp like a Bungsamran veteran, and ended up with it in the net before I managed to finish off the Chao Praya. I great double photo-shoot was the end result!
