Gillham's Fishing Resorts - Description

Fishing in Thailand at Gillhams Fishing Resort in Krabi, is likely to be the highlight of most specimen hunters dream fishing holiday. Set in the surrounds of a National Park with beautifully landscaped and groomed banks that blend perfectly with the environment, with enormous limestone karsts set as the back drop, the scenery is amongst the most breath-taking most anglers would have encountered, but yet, this is only a very small part of what Stuart Gillham (the owner) has managed to achieve here.

Gillhams Resort at dawn

Three years in the planning, Gillhams Fishing Resort is not only a breathtakingly beautiful fishing venue, it is also home to many of Thailand’s largest freshwater specimens, with Arapaima too well over 360LB, Mekong Catfish over 270LB, Giant Siamese Carp touching 160LB as well as world record size Pacu, Redtail Catfish and more. In total there are some 23 species of fish, many of which are now reaching world record size proportions.

Amazingly though the beauty of the setting, and the size of the fish are not in our view Stuart’s greatest accomplishments. Stuart and his team have managed to create an environment for these large fish in which they are prospering, and continue to pack on weight. The ecology of the lake is such that the fish are thriving on both natural food stuffs and anglers baits, so all species are packing on weight, in addition Stuart has developed techniques for handling the more delicate species such as the Arapaima when hooked, that ensure the fishes safety. Up until now this is a feat none of the other fisheries in Thailand have managed successfully, except Gillhams Fishing Resort, and consequently sometimes angling for such fish can leave a bitter sweet taste in the mouth for the majority of western anglers whose highest priority is the well being of their quarry.

Rods ready, Quality Accommodation!

Our own thoughts and feelings when fishing Gillhams Fishing Resort for the first time? Well the setting was very reminiscent of a scene out of Jurassic Park! We found ourselves constantly looking over our shoulder to make sure the T-Rex hadn’t escaped from its feeding pen! This feeling only grew as we sat at the waters edge and watched one giant Arapaima after another roll around our dead-baits. But we also felt extremely confident that our angling pursuits where in know way going to bring any specimen we hooked into harms way. Having watched Stuart persuade a 70kg Arapaima that had been caught by one of our friends into the landing pen, and then observe the great care with which the fish was unhooked, we was left in know doubt that Gillham's Fishing Resort is the most conservation minded fishery currently in operation in Thailand.

To top it all off Gillhams Fishing Resort also boasts the most comfortable air conditioned bungalows you could wish for, with breathtaking balcony views across the lake and into the Parkland, and fantastic breakfasts!
