Thailand's Fishing Venues

Palm Tree Lagoon

Palm Tree Lagoon

Palm Tree Lagoon- Description

Palm Tree Lagoon (as it's known to westerners) is a short drive from Hau Hin, or about 2hrs 30 mins from Bangkok. This venue was once used to film John Wilson's Dream Fishing series shown frequently on the Discovery Channels throughout Europe. Palm Tree Lagoon is in fact not unlike many rural Thai Fishing Venues, it's very rustic and perhaps smaller than an angler might expect considering the size of some of the fish lurking beneath the surface. However the owner is very proud of his stock of fish in what is really his own private lake, and rightly so, since as far as we are aware he has in the past reared some of the biggest weighed Arapaima we know of at 224kg. Additionally he has some enormous Chao-Praya Catfish approaching 100kg, a feat unrivalled anywhere in Thailand that we currently are aware of. As well as some nice size Pacu, and some other more obscure fish species such as the Thai Red-tail, Alligator Gar Amazonian Red-tail.

The venues facilities are basic, but we don't bring our angling guests here for the condition of their toilets! We bring them becaase it is still one of only a small handful of places in the world where an angler can target Arapaima with reasonable odds of success. This makes it a worthwhile inclusion in anyones itinerary for a day or two, especially when you also consider this small lakes inhabitants overall!  150kg+ Arapaima, near 100kg Chao Praya Catfish, 60kg+ Giant Siamese Carp, and perhaps currently Thailand's biggest Amazonian Thai Red-tail. These fish have been lovingly grown by the venue owner in some cases for more than 16yrs.

Palm Tree Lagoon

Palm Tree Lagoon is one of a growing number fisheries here in Thailand that are known of  only because they have had some attention from the media by various fishing celebrities. In the case of Palm Tree Lagoon John Wilson and his brother can be seen (repeatedly!) on Discovery channel catching numerous species both Thai and Amazonian at this venue. As with so many Thai Fishing Venues its often possible to target 5 or 6 different species, all of decent dimensions using the same approach.
